Simon’s Town

The red arrow is pointing to my home in Simon’s Town. The large docks at the edge of the harbor belong to the South African Navy. Large navy ships come and go.

Here are some pictures of the town I live in, here in South Africa. Simon’s Town is a small town, south of the large city of Cape Town. It is the perfect place for my husband and me to spend some time because it’s beautiful and peaceful, with just enough action to keep life interesting. The South African Navy also uses Simon’s Town as its home. We can hear the whistles and horns blowing at the shipyard far below us. Being up on the mountainside, we also get a good view of the ships coming in and out of the harbor, as well as helicopters and submarines. Shops in downtown Simon’s Town.

Because Simon’s Town is such a pretty little town, with a lovely harbor, it attracts many tourists. Since there are so many tourists, many restaurants have opened in town. We’re having fun trying them out! The most popular tourist destination close-by is Boulders Beach and Foxy Beach to visit the penguins. Click here to go to those beaches.

All the shops in Simon’s Town are on one street. Notice that cars drive on the left and the steering wheel is on the right.

After watching the penguins, and taking hundreds of pictures, the tourists head to Simon’s Town for fish and chips (French fries), or to shop for African knickknacks, before heading back to their hotels in the city of Cape Town.

There’s a beautiful harbor lined with restaurants for people to enjoy the view.

Some people come to Simon’s Town to take a boat trip into beautiful False Bay to look for whales, sharks or other sea life.
