Sun, Sea & Surf

This blog post is dedicated to Mrs. Rudin’s Class. Thanks for visiting me! Here are some of my favorite beach pictures. When you look at them, if you have a good imagination, you’ll feel the warm sun on your back, the cool water on your legs, and wet the sand between your toes….

During these long warm summer days in January my favorite place to go is the seaside. Some areas are rocky, some are sandy, some are crowded with people, some are very isolated, but all of them are beautiful.

A perfect place to visit on a Sunday afternoon is Sea Point. Looking at these pictures you’ll see why. It’s a beautiful, fun place where I always see something that takes me by surprise.

Man with his pet Moluccan Cockatoo.

One time I saw a woman walking her LITTLE PIG on a leash, as if it were a dog. Last time I saw a man with a MOLUCCAN COCKATOO!

The Moluccan Cockatoo is a big bird with a sharp beak, but he was very friendly and let me hold him.

I love walking along the promenade with my husband, seeing the sparkling ocean and the white foam as the waves roll into shore. I’ve always loved the sound of the waves crashing against the rocks and watching the white spray fly. It reminds me of the coastal walks I took in La Jolla, in Southern California, near where I grew up. Do you have a favorite beach, or walk along the ocean, that makes you happy just thinking about it?

There are also lots of outdoor parks and playgrounds where the children can enjoy being outside in this nice weather.

You can find some really interesting creatures in tide pools!

There are also interesting tide pools where plants and animals have developed adaptations to be able to live in an environment that is sometimes salty and wet, and sometimes hot and dry! Amazing!

Check out this scene! You can go swimming in a pool that’s in the ocean!

Want something more exciting? Surfing is very popular at some of the beaches, and lots of kids take surfing lessons from a very young age. Check out the video at the bottom of this post.

On the other hand, there are beaches in protected coves that are quiet and peaceful.

Where would YOU choose to go swimming?

A starfish that washed up on Fish Hoek Beach. Don’t worry. I threw it back in the ocean.

Beautiful Boulders Beach where penguins join the humans to swim.
