It’s Summer in the Southern Hemisphere!

Summer vacation begins for the South African schools today, December 10, 2011! Yesterday was their last day of school for the year. The kids were at school for just a few hours, just long enough to enjoy class parties and to hear what everyone would do for their month-long break.

Last weekend, I attended the eMazantsi Parade near my home to celebrate the beginning of summer. Children from many of the local schools were in the parade. You can see my pictures in this Animoto production. Don’t you love the costumes and the colors?!

    • You’re right, William. New York school students have 181 days of school per year. The South African students have 200 days of school per year. When I’m in the schools more, beginning in January, I’ll learn how they spend their time at school. I wonder who has more academic time per school year?
