How Did Clouds Get Their Names?

Milne in 1926 and has delighted people of all ages ever since. In July 2016, a fluffy cloud shaped like the lovable bear appeared over a children’s charity event in Dorset, England.

Have you ever daydreamed and looked at the sky to surprisingly see shapes you recognize? The study of clouds has always been a daydreamer’s science, aptly founded by a thoughtful young man whose favorite activity was staring out of the window at the sky. In the video below, Richard Hamblyn tells the history of Luke Howard, the man who classified the clouds and forever changed humanity’s understanding of these changeable, mysterious objects.

Watch the video below, then go outside and snap a few photographs of cloud shapes. Identify the type(s) of cloud(s) in your photo. Bring the photo and your cloud description to the library for display! Happy Daydreaming!
