ELA 8 – The Pearl

The Pearl, written by John  Steinbeck in 1947 is the tale of Kino living in the village of La Paz, Mexico.  Kino hopes to provide for his family by pearl diving, just like his father before him; but when tragedy strikes, he becomes desperate to find the pearl that would solve all of their problems.  Will this pearl be the blessing Kino believes it to be, or will it bring more than he bargained for?

Based on a Mexican parable, The Pearl explores the depth and breadth of human nature in all its capacities.
