The Soundtrack of Your Life Project

Music is such an important part of our lives. It motivates us, calms us, inspires us, at times it irritates us, and basically becomes the backdrop against which we live our lives. Songs can bring back clear memories of people, places, and events from our own past and serve to document our thoughts, feelings, and emotions at a given time or place.

Part I: Reflect on your life and consider five turning points. Then choose five songs to accompany each event. Just as music producers do, try to create an interesting sequence of your songs to create a playlist for your life thus far. Pretend that you are going to give this playlist to a friend. Which order should the songs go in?  For example, your songs might be listed in order by when the events happened, or they might be mixed together so that all of the slow songs are not back-to-back. DO NOT just list them randomly. Put some thought into the order of your songs and the complete package you are presenting. You must create this playlist on grooveshark and share it with the class during your presentation.

Part II: Now that you have created the soundtrack to your life, write a letter (addressed to “Dear Listener”) that explains why you chose the particular songs that you did. For each song you will need to reflect on the experiences, people, places, etc that inspired this selection. Obviously you will also need to explain who you are as a person and then offer some type of reflection upon the imaginary playlist as a whole. Be sure that this letter is school appropriate. Use the Outline in our Google doc to construct your letter. You do not need to answer each and every question as long as you have sufficiently explained the topic of each section. Remember, in reflective writing longer is generally better!

Part III: After you have created your playlist in grooveshark and written your letter to your listener, you will create a visual to help guide your presentation to the class. You may create a video, create a Power Point using google docs, a prezi, or any other visual aid of your choosing.
