Did you happen to see the recycled Earth Kids project last week? We reused water bottles and filled them with colored water and a plastic bag to show how remarkably similar plastic bags look to jellyfish, a food source for many sea animals. This mistake causes blockages within the sea animals digestive system and eventually causes death.
School is the perfect place to raise awareness and practice waste reduction! Earth Kids are learning about waste in their classrooms and will be able to teach other students and their families about how to minimize waste.
This week we are taking a pledge and asking every student, every teacher, every custodian and even Ms. Beglin and Mrs. White to join us.
We pledge to keep our planet healthy and beautiful by recycling and reducing our waste.
As STUDENTS, we will:
- Create less waste.
- Recycle our paper in the classroom.
- Recycle our containers in the cafeteria.
- Encourage our family, friends and others to recycle.
As TEACHERS, we will:
- Ensure that all students know what, where and how to recycle.
- Act as role models by demonstrating proper recycling habits and reducing waste.
As CUSTODIANS, we will:
- Ensure that properly separated items are recycled and never trashed.
- Ensure that our school has enough recycling bins and that they are placed in appropriate locations, including all classrooms, office and copy areas, the cafeteria and kitchen, and the teacher’s lounge.
As ADMINISTRATORS, we will:
- Support recycling and waste reduction in all aspects of school activities. O Recycle all paper in our offices.
As a SCHOOL COMMUNITY, we will make a positive impact. We pledge to always reduce, reuse and recycle! TOGETHER, we can save the world a little each day.
Let’s celebrate our connection to each other, nature and the Earth with a yoga pose and salutation, “Hello Sun! Hello Earth! Hello Rain! Hello Wind! Hello Ocean! Hello Wind! Hello Rain! Hello Earth! Hello Sun! Namaste.”
