Chinese New Year 2018

In 2018, Chinese New Year falls on February 16. In China, each lunar cycle has 60 years and 12 years is regarded as a small cycle. Each of the 12 years is defined by an animal sign: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Sheep, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig.

The Great Race by Christopher Corr celebrates Chinese New Year and retells the ancient folk tale of how every animal earned it’s place in the Chinese ZodiacΒ by taking part in the Great Race!Β  This folktale has been passed from generation to generation and teaches us about the Chinese culture.

Who do you think will come first to win the ultimate prize?

2018 is the Year of the Dog! Students will draw a dog while listening to Chinese New Year songs.
