Two versions of the mitten will be shared with first grader students during a read aloud. The most familiar version written by Jan Brett and the other written by Alvin Tresselt tell the tale of a boy who drops his mitten in the woods on the coldest day of winter. The lost mitten stretches and stretches — and stretches — to provide shelter for many woodland creatures.

For the month of February, students will engage in literacy activities with retelling, predicting, inferring, making connections and opinion writing using the activity list below.
