This week when kindergarten students visit the library, we will read, Maybe A Bear Ate It! written by Robie Harris and illustrated by Michael Emberley.
This book has a great message about taking care of books! Wow! The main character loses his/her book in a messy room and wonders what might have happened to it…maybe a bear ate it!
We will learn the “Book Baby” song to the tune of, “If You’re Happy and You Know It, Clap Your Hands” to reinforce the importance of book care.
This year kindergarten students will use a ziplock baggie to keep their “Book Baby” safe. After checking out their first library book of the 2016 – 2017 school year, students will return to the carpet to tuck their “Book Baby” into the ziplock baggie with a tissue as the blanket! A book mark will be added to the bag to encourage moms and dads to help their child read and take care of the book.
