Be Generous, Be Happy

Generosity is the habit of giving without expecting anything in return. It can involve offering time, assets or talents to aid someone in need. Generosity is often equated with charity as a virtue.  Generosity can also be spending time, money, or labor for others without being rewarded in return. Generosity is widely accepted in society as a desirable trait. Carole Schlessinger and Ruth Tofler-Riesel are co-directors of KIDS GIVING BACK. They both have  children and believe that one is never too young to help others. Volunteering locally and internationally, came out of a desire to enable their children to give to others not as privileged as themselves. Although you may not be able to work directly with Kids Giving Back and fly to Thailand to help with childcare or take a trip to the rural village of Tha Thum to help with the elephants, there are plenty of things for you to do from your own home.

That child who doesn’t have enough to eat isn’t going to do as well in school. And is likely to get sick more often. They are less likely to graduate from high school and go on to college, which will have a negative impact on their economic future. If this happens, then twenty years from now, they are much less likely to be able to earn enough to feed their family. Child hunger is a major problem in our country – but it’s solvable. Through state and city-based campaigns, putting a stop to child hunger by connecting local families with the resources they need to provide their children with enough nutritious food to thrive. Be a part of the solution and help end hunger in your community.
