Rhetorical Devices Assignment

Page Numbers Quote Figurative language or rhetorical device and thorough explanation
Pages 3-5 “After ducking down in the taxi so Mom wouldn’t see me, I hated myself-hated my antiques, my clothes, and my apartment.” pg 4 Anaphora– Walls uses anaphora of the word “hated” to illustrate and highlight  her feelings of guilt toward her lavish lifestyle versus the life her mother was living on the streets of NYC. By using this repetition of the word “hated” on the second page of the memoir, it  also reveals her internal conflict and disdain for the life she has created for herself versus the manner in which her mother lives.
