According to a School Library Journal’s recently published article, Public Libraries See Uptick in Digital Checkouts of YA, Kids’ Books, kids are reading more since our quarantine.

Young Adult (YA) and childrens’ books have been among the most popular genres in public libraries. Ebook checkouts of juvenile fiction went up 68 percent; juvenile nonfiction, 71 percent. Since April 1, 175,000 Harry Potter ebooks and audiobooks have circulated, courtesy of a partnership between OverDrive and Pottermore Publishing as part of the Harry Potter at Home program.

If you are a Harry Potter fan and this is the first time you are hearing about this, get on it! You can access the Harry Potter series from our SORA account using your district credentials (psst you can even access the #mightyfivelibraries through SORA).

Additionally, you can be transported to the Wizarding World at Pottermore Publishing. Pottermore Publishing is the global digital publisher of the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts series, as well as other audiobooks and eBooks from the Wizarding World.  Their website is for currently open for us to listen to the entire content of the Wizarding World

On the digital hub, “Harry Potter at Home”, readers of all ages and their families can access Harry Potter-related activities and free downloads.

Crafts, quizzes and other activities will be available on the hub and through an associated newsletter, all to be updated weekly on “Wizarding Wednesdays.”

You can listen to the first Harry Potter audiobook in a choice of six languages:English, Spanish, French, Italian, German and Japanese.  As part of the “Harry Potter at Home” initiative, J.K. Rowling granted educators permission to record themselves reading the Harry Potter stories aloud. The open license runs until July 30 or the end of the school year, whichever comes first, according to a release. Now is your chance indulge yourself as a reader! Have Fun!
