Vacation Time

Posted on

I would like to take this opportunity to wish all Kindergarten, First and Second grade students a wonderful summer vacation. You all worked extremely hard this school year and deserve a relaxing and enjoyable summer with your friends/family. I also want to wish all second grade students success at Cottage Lane Elementary School. I know you will all do a wonderful job in third grade. Always remember this quote by Dr. Seuss…

“You have BRAINS in your HEAD. You have FEET in your SHOES. You can STEER yourself in any DIRECTION you CHOOSE.”

Here are some pictures to enjoy…

I would like to congratulate all of the Kindergarten, First and Second grade students on the completion of the NYSESLAT exam. All students worked very hard throughout the year and worked diligently throughout the various test sessions. Results for the exam will be available in September. If you have any further questions regarding the NYSESLAT exam or ESL services for next year, please do not hesitate to email me at Jyapkowitz@socsd.org.

Realistic Fiction Unit

Posted on

The second grade students have finished their realistic fiction unit in ESL. Over the past few weeks, we have discussed story characters and their physical/personality traits. In addition, we created our own fictional character that we could use in our realistic fiction stories. The students worked in groups to create their characters and various problems they would face in their stories. The students had a great time writing and creating illustrations. Please take a look below to find your son/daughters work. Enjoy!

All About Dolphins

EXTRA, EXTRA,

READ ALL ABOUT IT!

Eliana, Jefferson and Christian have just finished writing their nonfiction book “All About Dolphins.” The students worked extremely hard researching, writing, and editing their informational book. Each student completed a different section of the book and collaborated with their group members to put the final product together. Once the book was finished, the students also reflected on their experience. We hope you enjoy reading their book and you learn something new about dolphins!
