The NJHS Pie in the Face Fundraiser has been rescheduled for Monday, March 26th. Thank you to everyone for donating to the fundraiser. The totals for Pie in the Face are: 6th grade is in the lead with $391.73, second place is 7th grade with $220.72 and third place is 8th grade with $177.77.
The SOMS musical club presents Guys and Dolls this weekend, March 23-25. Tickets for Guys and Dolls are on sale. You may purchase your tickets during lunch periods all this week. Adult tickets are eight dollars. Student tickets and senior citizen tickets are five dollars. Senior citizens are free on Sunday.
This Saturday, March 24th is the Tappan Zee High School Track Team’s 7th Annual Flying Dutchmen 5k at 9:15 am. Registration Forms are in the Main Office.
We will be having a locker cleanout on Wednesday, March 28th during homeroom. The Custodians will be leaving bags in the hallways for the students to throw out unwanted items from their lockers. Homeroom teachers and all teachers on Hall Duty during homeroom, please encourage the students to take home any extra clothing and clean out their lockers before the break. Library books may be brought up to the library to be returned.
The Jimmy Hauberger Memorial Foundation is sponsoring a poster contest to prevent harassment, intimidation and bullying of others and promote a commitment to practicing acts of kindness and showing compassion of others and helping those in need. For more information, applications are available outside Room 323 or see Ms. Wood for details. Posters are due Friday, April 20, and can be submitted to Ms. Wood or Mrs. Meyers. First prize is $300, second prize is $200 and third prize is $100.
The 2018 SOMS Yearbooks are now on sale! Add your own photos and memories by customizing two free pages. Download the free TreeRing app!! The deadline to order and customize your book is May 7, 2018. The price of the yearbook is $28.00 (upgrade to hardcover for an additional cost). You can order online directly through TreeRing. Flyers were already distributed during homeroom. Red Cross Babysitting Class is May 15 & 16. Registration form is available in the Guidance Office. Class size is limited.
CLUBS:
Debate Club and Debate Club Tournament: A new date for the tournament will be discussed at the next Debate Club Meeting on Thursday, March 29th. Please see Mrs. Landgraff for a new permission slip before Thursday, March 29th.
Gaming and Strategies Club will meet Tuesday, March 27th.
All current grade 7 students interested in becoming a member of the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) for the 2018-2019 school year, applications are due on Monday, April 9th, 2018.
SPORTS:
Any 7th or 8th grade boy interested in playing on the school Tennis Team needs to sign up with Mr. Goldstein in Room 186.
EVENTS:
Yankees tickets are on sale NOW! Don’t miss out on this fun tradition – SOCSD goes to Yankee Stadium! Yankees vs Athletics on Friday, May 11th at 7:05 PM. Ticket orders are due by Thursday, March 29th. Paper forms are available in the SOMS main office or download at www.somspta.org.
