All Together Now! Summer Reading is here!!
This school year we had a chance to get back to school in person and enjoy both print and digital copies of our favorite books! While the school library is closed over the summer, our counterparts at the local public libraries would love to see you in person! However, eBooks and audiobooks can still be accessed from SOMS without leaving your home or even on the beach or wherever you may travel to this summer! There are several options available. Please read about them here.
The ELA Department of South Orangetown Central School District requires students to read over summer break. Research clearly correlates the amount of reading a student does over the summer to his or her academic growth over the school year. Students entering grade 6, 7 and 8 should read a minimum of two non-fiction and/or fiction books (approximately 500 pages or more) count as two books. This is a minimum requirement. We encourage students to read widely, and they should not limit themselves to two books.
