Congratulations to Tappan Zee High School’s 2019 English Honor Society inductees Rachel Alexandre, Hayley Algert, Julia Fears, Kyle Guttman, Simryn Molina, Eóighan Noonan, Hadiya Qazi and Leigh Ann Sevastian, pictured below with English Honor Society Advisor Sarah McMane and President Juliana Guaracino, Vice President Laura Pollock, Secretary Caitlin Donohue and Treasurer Katherine Lussen.

As part of the induction ceremony, officers each spoke eloquently about  a book that had been personally meaningful to them: “Cinder” by Marissa Meyer, “When You Reach Me” by Rebecca Stead, “Eleanor and Park” by Rainbow Rowell, “Tuesdays with Morrie” by Mitch Albom, and “The City of Heavenly Fire” by Cassandra Clare. “The English Honor Society is a group of kids who have a love of reading and writing and enjoy being with others who share their passion for literature,” McMane noted.

The group was founded in 2003 to confer distinction for high achievement in English language and literature at TZHS. Members are juniors and seniors who have exhibited high standards of excellence in their freshman and sophomore English classes, completed six points of community service in English/Language Arts, received at least one teacher recommendation and published an original piece of writing on the school, state or national level.
