• Read The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls.
  • Complete the chart. You will be using these notes in the first weeks of school for various assignments.

Family– Walls’ upbringing is unconventional. Explore the family dynamics that afford her stability and those that challenge that stability.

Parenting–  Walls’ parents are unique. Locate information about the impact Rex and Rosemary’s decisions have on Walls.

Identity– Walls’ identity is formed as a result of her family and parents. Identify times when Walls struggles with her identity and times when she is confident in who she is becoming.

Facing adversity– A great deal of the adversity that Walls faces is a result of the decisions her parents make. Explore the adversities that Walls faces and how she overcomes them (if she does).

Author’s style–  Walls’ writing style captivates the reader. Identify passages that are especially effective in recounting Walls’ childhood experiences.
