Eyes in the Sky: Drones Give Law Enforcement a Closer Look

Rockland County Sheriff presents educational drone demonstration to SOMS students

Last week, SOMS Challenge Lab students learned how local law enforcement can use drones to keep communities safe, and then saw a drone in action, following its camera vision on a screen as it traveled. The students, who have been programming parrot drones in class, were so excited to see this demonstration firsthand. Thank you to the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office for this demonstration and to and Andrew McIntosh for inviting us to be a part of this very cool experience

Detective Doug Lerner of the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office gives a presentation to students on how drones are used by law enforcement to ensure the safety of communities.

Detective Lerner gives students a close-up view of the drone, detailing important features and functions, before taking flight.

Students gather around a screen to follow the drone’s camera vision as it travels. With the drone’s vision, we were able to see a glimpse of the New York City skyline!
