Your child is being introduced to various reading strategies.  The strategies listed below help your child to figure out unknown words.

• Look at the picture.

• Get your mouth ready to say the word.

• As yourself questions as you read, "Does this make sense?"

• Skip the word and read on.

• Look across the whole word.

• Look for sound chunks.

• Look carefully at the word. Look at the beginning and end of the word.
