Phillipsburgh Manor

On Friday our class went on a trip to Phillipsburgh Manor. We enjoyed lunch outside with Mrs. Goldstein's and Mrs. Yelin's class. We sat on picnic benches overlooking the water.

We visited the Activity Center where Sarah talked about how different life was for the people that lived there 250 years ago. They had no refrigerators to keep their food cold or ovens to cook their food. They cooked their food in fireplaces. They grew their own fruits and vegetables.

At the Manor House we saw lots of different rooms. We saw a fancy bedroom with a canopy bed. We also saw a kitchen, office and sitting room. On the bottom floor we saw a chrun which they used to make butter.

At the mill, John showed us how they would grind corn to make flour. We also saw how the mill operated.

In the barn we learned about the different tools that they used. Back then they would dry their vegetables by hanging them up.
