Hi Class!

What are you guys doing to stay active? Over here we are doing A LOT of bike riding. You probably don’t know what PEGS are (your parents will) but they are the wheel extensions on the front and back of Parker’s bike that I am borrowing for the time being. I really need my own bike!! We are keeping busy! We are taking walks and scooter rides, and doing some chalk talk! On the rainy days, we are bouncing on Ryder’s trampoline and doing jumping jacks and push ups inside! It’s important for your mind and body to stay active. I am missing you all SO much! Can’t wait to touch base with you soon:)

Hi Students and Parents!

I hope that everyone is doing well! I am reaching out to tell you how much I miss each and every one of you!
I’m missing our 4th grade family and can’t wait until we can be back together! In the meantime, keep smiling, help your family, keep reading, writing and practicing math (you have all grown SO much) AND practice those basketball shots – I am practicing my knockout skills for recess:)

So here is what I am missing about each of you..

Tim – that smile lights up our classroom! I can just see it now!

Brielle – your bubbling energy! and that laugh:)

Connor – your unbelievable wealth of sports knowledge and of course you carrying your basketball everywhere!
Kieran – your insight during our read alouds – always pushing our thinking!and of course making me laugh!
June – your artistic talent!
Gavin – your big heart and helping nature!
Erin – your grit during any school assignment!
Emma M – your smile and giggle:) …I can just hear it now!
Emma N – your kind letters that you leave on my desk:)
Mossy – chatting with you about everything and anything!
Mason – blowing my mind during our math lessons!
Jasmine – your helping and calm nature!
Heily – your true and honest self!!
Alyssa – your off the hook b-ball skills! I’m coming for you at knockout 😉
Mikey – watching you create your graphic novel – keep working on it! Can’t wait to read it!

The district has decided to start our distance learning on March 30, 2020. At that point, google classrooms will be accessed with specific lessons, assignments, etc. for 4th grade. More on that to come…

However, I know that lots of parents and kids are reaching out to see what you can do before then. I love that Mamba Mentality! I am going to list some resources below. These are not “assigned” but are there if some of you are eager to get going!

Reading and Math Sites that I can see how your child is doing…

1.) Go to our Dreambox link – Spend some time working on lessons!
2.) Go to Raz-Kids – I created a username for each of you. This is a great website where you will first listen to a book, then read the book and finally answer comprehension questions. Each of you have an account and it is customized to your F & P level. The Raz-Kids level will appear higher, but don’t worry I checked the correlation. Type in “rcoatti” and our classroom will appear. Each of you has a password. Please have mom or dad (or you) email me for your password. rcoatti@socsd.org

     This is an unusual paragraph. I’m curious as to just how quickly you can find out what is so unusual about it. It looks so ordinary and plain that you would think nothing was wrong with it. In fact, nothing is wrong with it! It is highly unusual though. Study it and think about it, but you still may not find anything odd. But if you work at it a bit, you might find out. Try to do so without any coaching.

Scattergories/Scattergories Junior is a fun trivia game that you can play solo or with friends and family. This game keeps the brain active and engaged, while increasing your fluency, flexibility and originality. There are several full versions of the game that are available online or through apps.  Today we will play in school with the following rules.

Objective: As quickly as possible, fill out a category list with answers that begin with the same letter that is chosen for that round.

How to Score Points:

1 point = a word that does not start with that round’s letter
2 points = a word that start’s with that round’s letter
4 points = double letters that start with that round’s letter (ex: bubble bath)
5 points = a word that no one else has

It’s race to make the best word in 60 seconds! Students slide the “Letter Getter” to reveal two letter tiles. The first letter must start the word and the next letter must be the last letter of the word. The player who calls out the first word that meets the criteria wins the tiles. Once all tiles are gone, the player with the most tiles wins the title of “Smart Mouth.”

Black Friday… Cyber Monday…Sales! Sales! Sales! Everyone is out looking for great deals on holiday presents.  Don’t fall into this shopping craze. Use some imagination and creativity with Mrs. McBride’s monthly challenge, The Holiday Challenge.  All entries are due Tuesday, December 17th.

Dr. Maya Angelou wrote about this book, “The reader is shown that it is a blessing to be a blessing.” When you want to help others, you may never know or see the people that benefit.

Let’s let others know they matter too. We will create origami hearts with the words “YOU MATTER” inside. Leave it in a place for someone to find, and they will discover that you are grateful for him/her.

Last week’s card challenge encouraged us to use grit! There were many ways to solve the 10 card investigation – work backwards, start small, find a pattern, trial and error. There’s also a program created from the math equation – Order of the Cards.

Today you will need more grit to solve many puzzles. Here’s another reminder.
