This month’s PARP book is Betty Birney’s The World According to Humphery.
“You can learn a lot about life by observing another species. That’s what Humphrey was told when he was first brought to Room 26. And boy, is it true! In addition to his classroom escapades, each weekend this amazing hamster gets to sleep over with a different student, like Lower-Your-Voice-A.J. and Speak-Up-Sayeh. Soon Humphrey learns to read, write, and even shoot rubber bands (only in self-defense, of course). Humphrey has friends, adventures, and a cage with a lock-that-doesn’t- lock. His life would be perfect, if only the teacher, Mrs. Brisbane, wasn’t out to get him!”
This month’s challenge is to create a home for everyone’s favorite classroom pet, Humphrey!
Goal: You will design, create and build a habitat and exercise maze for Humphrey. After designing the habitat, you will share your designs with the class. Your job is to create a castle fit for a hamster!
Remember good hamster habitats include: A room for hamster to sleep, a place for them to eat, a bathroom, an exercise wheel and/or ball, tunnels and ramps, a fun interactive maze
Supplies you might need: a small cardboard box (no larger than a shoebox), paper towel tubes, toilet paper tubes, glue and tape, construction paper, pencils/markers
Due Date: Friday, April 14th.
Remember to include your full name and teacher’s name on Humphrey’s Home!
