Nature lovers, bird lovers and bird watchers across the country, annually celebrate National Bird Day on January 5. National Bird Day, an “unofficial” national holiday, is a day to create awareness on issues critical to the protection and survival of birds, both captive and wild. According to Born Free USA, nearly 12 percent of the world’s almost 10,000 bird species are in danger of extinction.
Scientists have combed the globe and identified the 100 most unique and rare birds on the planet. Here are 10 of them.
If you are a lover of birds, you might be interested to know that you can see live streaming coverage of wild birds at feeding stations, water stations, and water holes! Links to cams focused on bird can be viewed at View Nesting Birds or Bird Feeder Webcams.
Watch a bird and post some interesting observations.
Those were some weird looking birds! The feathers around one of the eagle’s neck looks like a mane. It’s really interesting that some birds use a red puffy thing on the neck to attract females, where humans would probably find it hideous. I found it cool that some birds, like humans, dance to attract a mate. The Ibis is almost as tall as my brother.
Those birds were beautiful! Hopefully they can have babies and help prevent extinction. I forget their names, but my favorites were the 10th rarest and the 4th rarest. It was a tough choice! They had some really cool-looking birds on the video. Too bad they’re all so scarce!
It’s amazing that they know how many birds are left in the species. How do they do that?

Find out for us! How do they do that?
I never heard of any of those species of birds. Although, I really loved the Sumatran Ground Cuckoo! Near the eye it was a dark shade of purple to a light shade of purple which made it look beautiful! I never really think about how much animals lives are worth.
Those birds were amazing! It is horrible that so little of them are left in the world. But it is great to see that people are putting the effort forward to trying to save them.
