Eight years ago, Scott Naturals Tube-Free bath tissue wanted to cut down on unnecessary waste. By eliminating the center cardboard tube, they would save 17 billion toilet paper tubes from being thrown away each year. This is enough to fill the Empire State Building twice! Check out their commercial.
This is not a promotion for Scott. This is a request to not #tossthetube. Let’s reuse the tube as a research project. Select an endangered animal. Research the animal and transform a toilet paper (or paper towel) tube into that animal.
Here are a few great sites about endangered animals:
Your entry must:
- Be submitted by Friday, May12th.
- Structure must NOT exceed nor be larger than 24 inches in height or width.
- Include your name, teacher’s name, grade.
- Write the name of your animal.

- Add one question you still have about the animal.
- Entry Form – The Tube Challenge Entry Form

Hello. I made a black rhino because it is endangered and interesting to me.
Rory,
Any chance you can email me a picture? I’m I’m going to create a collage.
Thanks for completing. You rock!
I made a Western Lowland Gorilla. It’s scientific name is Gorilla Gorilla Gorilla (Seriously!)
Some of my research is that in the past 25 years, over 60% of this species population has been killed by hunting & poaching. They can weigh up to 440 pounds, and can grow to be 4 to 5 1/2 feet tall when standing up on two feet. It would take over 75 years for this gorilla’s population to return to normal even without hunting, poaching, and other dangers.
