November Happenings!

Wow! We can’t believe another month of school has gone by. This month was filled with many activities.

The class has now developed a smooth routine so everything can be fit in. Our mornings are focused on writing, problem solving, grammar review, and fact quizzes. The class is working on completing 100 facts in 6 minutes.

In Fundations we have worked on adding suffixes to base words and adding plurals to words to make them more than one.

In math the focus is now on Place Value and really understanding number sense. The class can add and subtract numbers using many different strategies. We continue to work on solving word problems. Our focus is looking for clue words and underlining them and circling the numbers we may need to use to solve the problem. This helps us determine how we should solve the problem.

In Reader’s Workshop the class continues to identify characters, feelings, traits, setting, problem and solution, sequencing, and retelling of a story. We had a wonderful time reading many versions of Stone Soup and comparing and contrasting the different versions. The class then made their own soup. They were quite impressed how soup could be made from a stone!

In Writer’s Workshop the class has developed a few pieces focusing on a small moment. We have learned to use a carrot to insert information, add descriptive language, and feeling within their writing.

We have started a Science Unit on Solids and Liquids and have incorporated map skills and the communities around us in Social Studies.

For homework the class has started Reader’s Responses and has done a wonderful job with it. I enjoy reading about their book choices and how they feel about the books they have read.

Star of the Week is underway. Griffin and Brian did a beautiful job at sharing their prized possessions and the class learned so many new things about them while sharing their Time Lines. We all can’t wait to learn more about each other.

It was an action packed month!
