The entire month of October has come and gone! We can’t believe it!
The class has now developed routines and is efficient at them.
Our mornings start of with Journal writing focusing on a beginning middle and an end, Problems of the Week, or Language mechanics types of work. We usually begin our Math lessons of the day next and then head off to our special. After special we have a snack and continue our Math lesson. The topic of math lately has been adding and subtracting using measurement with meters and centimeters. The class has been very successful using strategies that they have been taught and or have known to apply and show their work.
In Reader’s Workshop the class is working on Character’s feelings and traits, setting, problem and solution, and retelling of events in a story. The class is reading independently and meeting in small reading groups to apply the skills presented.
In Writer’s Workshop we have been talking about “Watermelon” ideas and connecting them to “Seed” ideas. The students are writng Personal Narratives. They are using graphic organizers to make sure they have all components in their writing pieces. We are working on adding adjectives, inserting words using a carrot, and focusing on punctuation.
The class now has been logged on to Raz Kids and V Math Live. Each has a password and can use them at home.
We have celebrated many birthdays already this year, I can’t believe it. Halloween was a big hit. Thank you to the class mother’s who organized a craft and snack for all. The rain held out for us to have a parade as well. The Piermont Fire Department did their annual presentation for Fire Prevention Week. The class got to visit each truck.
Stay tuned for November’s update!
