Falcon Contest

perigrinefalconHave you heard of the peregrine falcon nest at the top of the old Tappan Zee Bridge? They have been nesting there for years, and no, they don’t know what to do about them when the bridge eventually comes down. A pair of falcons just laid eggs up there, and the TZ Bridge Outreach is asking students to help name the little ones when they hatch. Check out the nest, LIVE: Tappan Zee Peregrine Falcons. and start thinking. The TZ Bridge Team will be sending more information, and Mr. Tanenbaum will keep us updated. Start posting some ideas to our blog.
Fun Fact: Top speed ever measured for one of these birds is 242 miles per hour.

Compassion

Compassion is this month’s superpower, and we are excited about completing green hearts to display our acts of compassion.

At our character education assembly, we discussed compassion, listened to a podcast on sportsmanship and were inspired by the stories of our superhero. Read more here… Compassion Assembly.

Eve Bunting’s book, Train to Somewhere, shares the story of Marianne and thousands of homeless children who were sent from New York City by train to families in the Midwest in the hope they would be adopted.

Do some research on Orphan Trains. Post information that you found interesting and why.

Dr. Seuss’ Birthday

Today is March 2nd, Dr. Seuss’ birthday!

“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more things you learn, the more places you’ll go.” ~ Dr. Seuss, Oh the Places You Go

Keep reading non-fiction texts! Post something knew you learned from your reading and include the title of the book. We can all learn more together.

Challenge: Head over to Mrs. McBride’s website for another challenge, Dr. Seuss Trailer Challenge.
