WE are EXPERTS!

We had so much fun celebrating our writing! Each student wrote their very own Expert boook on a topic that they know everything about. We were happy to share this occasion with our families and friends and we loved all the positive feedback we recieved!!

Compassion!!!

This month we are “wild” about turtles and compassion! Compassion is our word of the month, and we need to show compassion throughout the day. Listen to John Muth’s The Three Questions.

Leo the turtle shares with Nikolai – “Remember then that there is only one important time, and the time is now. The most important one is always the one you are with. And the most important thing is to do good for the one who is standing at your side.”

  • When is the best time to do things? TODAY!
  • Who is the most important one? THE PERSON NEXT TO YOU!
  • What is the right thing to do?” COMPASSION

Use your “game board” to get started. Comment with compassionate acts that you received, and compassionate acts you performed. Show others they are loved!

Perseverance and Martin Luther King Jr.

We can a learn a lot about perseverance from Martin Luther King, Jr. On Monday, January 16th we observe his birthday and honor all of his accomplishments. Listen to Kid President’s video on how King taught us that things won’t always be awesome, but your response can be.

Remember, things don’t always have to be they are. We can change them! Kids can change them.

Galette de rois!

Last Friday, Mrs. Dutrieux came in and taught us about Galette de rois! This French tradition is a King cake traditionally shared at Epiphany, on 6 January. It is composed of a puff pastry cake, with a small bean, the fève, hidden inside, it is usually filled with frangipane, a cream made from sweet almonds, butter, eggs and sugar. With a bean hidden in the cake, the person who gets it becomes the king or queen, and has to choose his queen or her king!

We are excited to inroduce: Queen Tamara and King Ryan!! Thank you Mrs. Dutrieux for sharning the fun tradition with all of us!
