This month we celebrate persistence!
Persistence is the ability to stick with something. If you practice the violin for over a year in order to play “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star” perfectly, that’s persistence!
We can be persistent by:
- Breaking a big goal down into smaller steps
- Remembering it’s ok to make mistakes. We learn from our mistakes!
- Learning about others who failed but were persistent and reached their goals
March is also Women’s History Month! During Women’s History Month we celebrate the contributions women have made to the United States and recognize the specific achievements women have made over the course of American history.

This month we celebrate acceptance. What does it mean to accept others?
Acceptance is understanding and celebrating the ways that each person is different and unique.
That means having a right to their own feelings, thoughts and opinions.
When you accept people for who they are, you let go of your want to change them.
When We Are accepting we:
- Spend time with people who are different than you
- Include everyone
- Being kind and respectful
- Learn about other people and ask questions to get to know them better
- Make others feel valuable and loved regardless of differences

This month we celebrate resilience.
What does it mean to show resilience?
Resiliency is our ability to bounce back when something tough or hard happens. It means we are strong on the inside.
When we are resilient and bounce back we:
- Set goals
- Feel good about the future (we are optimistic)
- Can identify our feelings and recognize feelings in others
- Don’t let bad moments stop us from having good days
- Use problem solving to reach our goals.
Check out our December Character Education Assembly hosted by Mrs. Bartell’s 2nd grade class:
Community Project: Students will draw or write on a feather how they will “bounce back” and be resilient when faced with a challenge! Here is an extension activity to do at home or in the classroom: After watching my video, teachers will give students time to complete the worksheet. When students are done answering questions about themselves, they will have the opportunity to share out loud and elaborate on their answers. While a student is sharing facts about themselves, the other students will be listening and filling in on their own sheet at least one fact about a classmate that they did not know. For example: I am good at playing guitar. Johnny is good at cooking.
