Section 1 pushes low to moderate risk winter sports & modified sports start dates

The Section 1 Executive Committee announced the following today: 

  • Low to moderate risk sports start date will be 1/4/2021. For SOCSD that includes: Boys Swimming, Fencing, Indoor Track & Field and Bowling
  • Modified Sports will begin on 1/19/2021. For SOCSD that includes: Boys Swimming, Boys & Girls Basketball & Ice Hockey.
  • The preseason workouts at the HS will resume on Wednesday, December 2nd. For those students who signed up for these sessions, please check in with the coaches running your sessions for times, dates and protocols.

Winter sports announcement

NYSPHSAA came out with the following guidance yesterday.

The following high risk sports start date will be delayed until 1/4/2021 – Boys & Girls Basketball, Cheerleading, Ice Hockey & Wrestling.

The following moderate to low risk sports will begin on 11/30/2020 – Bowling, Boys Swimming, Boys & Girls Indoor Track & Fencing.

Section 1 will make a determination soon regarding winter modified sports and whether to delay any of the low to moderate risk sports as per the pandemic and/or lack of open venues (bowling alleys, hockey rinks, swimming pools). Section 1 guidance should come out by the end of this week.

The Athletic Department will keep the online registration open for anyone who wants to sign up for a sport and/or the Advanced Placement Process. If you have any questions, please feel free to email Athletic Director Bill Pilla at wpilla@socsd.org

Fall Sports Announcement

Dear Student Athletes, Coaches & Parents:

As we come back today, Thursday, November 12th to practice and finish the last week of the regular season as well as look forward to the beginning of the regional playoffs, I want to thank all of you for all your dedication in making this fall season a success. It certainly has not been what we have been used to, but we have certainly been able to appreciate the moments we have been able to experience! Whether watching or being on the field of play I think we are all grateful! I and am very proud to what we have accomplished already! I look forward to seeing our teams compete over the next ten days and to create more memories with their friends and families!

Thanks for adhering to all the rules and protocols we have put in place! Your cooperation has made this that much easier!

Pre-Season Workout Sign up Information for TZHS Athletes

Pre-Season High School Winter Sports Workouts to Begin November 9

In preparation to begin the high school winter sports season on November 30, Tappan Zee Athletics will offer Winter sports pre-season workouts for high school athletes beginning Monday, November 9. Space is limited; athletes must sign up in advance by emailing Director of Physical Education, Health and Athletics Bill Pilla (wpilla@socsd.org) by Friday, November 6 at 3PM to reserve a spot.

Additional information:

  • Eligible winter sports: Girls Basketball, Boys Basketball, Wrestling, Cheerleading, Bowling and Boys Swimming
  • One sport per athlete
  • Workouts will be scheduled and limited based on the number of athletes who sign up
  • Current fall sport athletes may not participate in pre-season winter sport workouts
  • All DOH, NYSPHSAA & SOCSD COVID rules & regulations will be in place. Please see the Athletics Reopening webpage for details.

Spring 1 and Spring 2 outdoor-only workouts may be accommodated per facility availability, if there is sufficient interest, after winter sports begin on November 30. Eligible Spring 1 and Spring 2 sports: Football, Baseball, Girls Lacrosse, Boys Lacrosse and Softball.
