Spring season spectator guidelines for interscholastic contests

In accordance with Section 1 adopting DOH guidance regarding spectators at outdoor events/contests,  Tappan Zee High School & South Orangetown Middle School  Athletics will adopt the DOH guidelines for outdoor home contests regarding spectators, which is 200 spectators per contest.  Social distancing and masks will be required on campus for these events. Pre-Screening and temperature checks will not me mandated for outdoor contests at this time. Spectators are not allowed to be on the Tappan Zee High School or South Orangetown Middle School campus to observe practices or tryouts.

 Please make sure to check with the Athletic Office by calling 845 680-1640 or email at wpilla@socsd.org if you plan to travel to an away contest as some school districts may have different guidelines. Softball tryouts Monday 4/26 3:15-5 PM @ SOMS

Baseball tryouts Monday 4/26 4-5:30 PM @ SOMS

Boy’s Tennis tryouts Monday 4/26 3:30-5 PM @Independence Park (shuttle provided from SOMS if needed)

Boys Lacrosse tryouts Monday 3:15-5 PM @ SOMS

Track & Field practice Monday 3:30-5 PM @ TZHS (shuttle at SOMS to TZHS after school)

Girls Lacrosse tryouts Tuesday 3:15 – 5 PM @ SOMS

APP Physical Fitness Testing Thursday, 4/15

All student athletes at the middle school level who wish to tryout at the HS level who need to complete the APP fitness testing should meet SOMS Athletic Coordinator Mr. Rastelli after school on Thursday at SOMS, rain or shine.

Softball & Baseball Pre Season Workouts!

The first pre-season baseball workout will be this Saturday (March 27th) from 8-10AM. We may be inside and/or outside depending on the weather, so dress appropriately. In order to participate, you MUST complete the Athletic Screening form before arriving at school. Please go to the Dutchmen Arena entrance at arrival for a temperature check.

Softball will hold a pre-season workout this Saturday, March 27th from 10 AM-12 PM at the softball field. If the weather is not conducive to being on the field, we will be in the gym. Athletic screening and temperature check at Dutchmen Arena entrance must be done.

Registration Information for Fall 2 & Spring Sports

Please be advised of the following dates:

Registration for the following sports for the Fall 2 season is open. The first day of practices/tryouts is Monday, March 8th

Fall 2 Sports                                                                                   

  • Varsity, JV & Modified Football
  • Varsity, JV & Modified Volleyball
  • Varsity & JV Sideline Cheerleading
  • Varsity & Modified Swimming

APP Registration is open – Physical fitness testing will take place 3/1-3/5 for those student athletes interested in playing at the HS level.

* Not having a modified team is not a reason to attempt the APP. It is for those student athletes who feel they are at a higher level and can play at the HS level. 

Registration for the following Spring Sports will be open March 19th. The first day of practices/tryouts is Monday April 19th
