The South Orangetown Central School District has been working diligently to prepare for the launch of a Distance Learning Initiative. In the interim, our teachers have created thoughtfully developed lessons, activities, and resources to keep students stay engaged in learning while they are at home. The curriculum teachers have designed are aligned with the SOCSD scope and sequence and New York State Learning Standards in every subject area.These resources are available on your school’s website (Links below) or in your child’s Google or Schoology Classrooms.
Just as many universities have recently made the switch to 100% distance learning, the South Orangetown staff has also developed the capacity and expertise to make this switch. Beginning in April, we will officially launch SOCSD Distance Learning: It’s a new day, LEARN something! This program will build on the work that teachers and students have already started and will include daily online interaction, instruction, and support.
We recognize that distance learning is not equivalent to your child(ren) interacting with their teachers and each other. We are confident that we can continue making the SOCSD teaching and learning experience meaningful and engaging for everyone!
The links on each school’s website will provide you with all the information that you and your child will need to access learning daily. Paper packets were sent home for K-2 parents and this work is also available online For grades 3-5, teachers have Google Classroom environments with posted work and each student has an account and access. At the 6-12 level, teachers have Google or Schoology Classroom sites websites and students can access assignments and activities on the school’s websites.
