The Extended Leadership Team (XLT) celebrated its tenth year at the HNA Palisades Conference Center. The team is comprised of central office, school, and teacher leaders with representatives from across the district. We meet several times a year as a district wide team and as school teams to set goals that are aligned with the District Strategic Plan. For the past four years, the team has been instrumental in creating the plan with goals and measurable objectives focused on student learning. More recently, the team has incorporated the new Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) metrics into the goal setting process. We briefly reviewed the District Vision and Five Focus Areas that help drive the plan, while embedding a focus on the new accountability system for schools across New York State. Each group took some time to celebrate this year’s successes. Here are some of the most memorable highlights shared:
- Diploma Seal of Bi-Literacy
- Trips
- Writing Celebrations
- Student-led assemblies
- Enrichment and Clubs
- Theater Programs and Plays
- Community Service
- Studio Art
- The Butterfly Project
- Start with Hello
- The Masked Teacher, National Junior Honor Society’s final fundraiser of the year to benefit Hi Tor Animal Care Center in memory of Paul Doctor
- Wax Museum
- YALE RULER Program (Social Emotional Learning)
- Earth Day
- Mentor Monday
- 24 Scholar Athletes
- National Merit Finalist
- Cardboard Boat Regatta…
At the conclusion of the day, we went on a Gallery Walk to look at each other’s ideas, plans, and action steps. We also used post-it notes to provide feedback or ask questions. Our district continues its commitment to ensuring that each of our students reaches his or her full potential by engaging, inspiring, and elevating our students to achieve success. We’re looking forward to a great 2019-2020 school year. A special thank you to the team for taking the time the day after the last day of school to plan together for next year…Together We Can!
