Curriculum and Instruction

We are pleased to announce recent updates to the South Orangetown K-12 curriculum maps in a public view format to keep our school community more informed about what children are learning. Maps have been added for Social Studies and Science in grades 6-12 and there are other subject areas such as World Languages that will be published in the coming weeks. This project began several years ago and has culminated in online curriculum maps by grade and subject that is easy for parents and guardians to read and understand. This is an ongoing process, which continues to expand into other curriculum areas. The maps include approximate timelines for units and topics, and we have begun to embed links with more detailed descriptions of some of these units.

We strive to provide students with a well-balanced, rigorous, and engaging curriculum that prepares them for the future. As we continue to reflect, evaluate, and revise our lessons and projects, we will continue to expand and update these maps to reflect these changes. These maps are a dynamic tool to assist parents and teachers in their ongoing dialogue, as well as provide valuable information to teachers about transitions from grade to grade and consistency in our curriculum. This project also entails compiling lessons, assessments, and resources by grade, course, and units for teachers to access online from any computer or mobile device.

Thanks to the many teachers, instructional coaches, and administrators who continue to help bring this project to the next level. Thanks to our entire school community for your support in making South Orangetown such an engaging and inspiring place to learn!
