Author and college professor Marie Marquardt visited with students at Tappan Zee High School today. Her new book, The Radius Of Us, is about a boy named Phoenix from El Salvador who comes to the United States looking for a safe place to call home and a girl named Gretchen from America who doesn’t feel safe anywhere due to a trauma she suffered earlier in her life. In this romance novel, they both find healing in love.
Marie talked with students and teachers about her personal journey as a humanitarian and professional writer, and how many immigrants come to America seeking safety and a better place to live, but often endure a plight of struggle that ends in deportation. She shared her motivation for writing this book, her work with undocumented immigrants, and how the meaningful friendships she has made over the years continues to inspire her work. Students received a signed copy of her new book.
Special thanks to Ms. Parker-Hennion, Ms. Stranges, and Ms. Schnapp for arranging this visit.
