Onomatopoeia Poems use words that imitate or sound just like the source of the sound they describe. Examples of these words are jingle, creak, tick, roar, boom and slurp.

Write a free verse poem in which words are used to make sounds. Your poem can tell a little story, tell about an event, or describe a subject.  Decide which sounds to use and where the sounds will go in the poem. Move words around until the poem sounds just right!
