SOMS Announcements

Cycle Day 1

Read for the Rockland Boulders Record participants:  Remember to turn in your Week 2 slip of recorded minutes.  Continue to record minutes and earn Boulder’s tickets and other prizes for minutes read outside of school.  If you would like to participate and did not get a packet from your ELA teacher, stop by the Library to get a packet.

Chorus students performing a NYSSMA Solo – Mrs. Pena Carney will be in her room every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 3:00 – 4:00 pm.  We will work on your songs and sight singing.  Please make sure you get there at least once a week so you can be ready.

We will be having a locker cleanout on Wednesday, April 17th during homeroom.  The Custodians will be leaving bags in the hallways for the students to throw out unwanted items from their lockers.  Homeroom teachers and all teachers on Hall Duty during homeroom, please encourage the students to take home any extra clothing and clean out their lockers before the break.  Library books may be brought up to the library to be returned.

There will be a Peer Leadership Meeting for current 8th grade members on Wednesday, April 17 after school in the Cafeteria.  This is a mandatory meeting.  Students that are part of both the Peer Leadership Program and NJHS should go to the NJHS Meeting first for 10 minutes and then will be dismissed to go to the Peer Leadership Meeting.  If you have any questions, please see Ms. Condon, Mr. Rastelli, or Mr. Amandola prior to the meeting.

The National Junior Honor Society is sponsoring the Pet Drive for Hi-Tor Animal Shelter in memory of Paul Doctor until Thursday, April 18th.  Please bring in supplies for cats and dogs like leashes, collars, and treats to your homeroom.  Points will be tallied on April 18th.  No food will be accepted.  The homeroom with the most points wins a pizza lunch party.  Thank you in advance for your support.

The National Junior Honor Society is kicking off their last fundraiser for the year, the first ever “Masked Teacher” through Friday, May 3.  Collections will take place during homeroom and all lunch periods to support the Hi-Tor Animal Care Center in memory of Paul Doctor.  The “Masked Teacher” will be an end of the year event outside for all the grades.  Our contestants, or teachers, will do a lip sync and dance routine to perform in front of our student audience.  We will have the audience decide which teacher performed the best by applause and the losers will all be unmasked, one at a time based on how much money was raised.  That leaves us with our champion who does get their bragging rights, but of course still has to take their mask off.  We all can’t wait to see who our best “Masked Teacher” is!

Yankee VS Twins Game is on Sunday, May 5 @ 1:05pm.  $50 includes a hat, hotdog and beverage.  Please fill out the form online and return it to the PTA mailbox in the Main Office as soon as possible.  If you have any questions, please contact epmm@optonline.net, Tricia McGee or Sharyn Rubino at sharynr2012@yahoo.com
