Can you believe that we are almost second graders?  Today we went on a field trip to TZE to see our new school and meet some teachers and students.

First, we got on the bus.  Everyone talked quietly with their partner while we drove to Piermont.  Jack noticed that we turned right by the Mountain House.

The bus ride took felt like it was 2 seconds for some and 5 or 15 minutes for others.  We got off the bus and walked inside.  Ms. Beglin and Dr. Lee were there.  As soon as we came inside, we saw Nicole's dad!

All of the classes went into the cafeteria.  Dr. Lee introduced himself and talked about the school.  He was talking about what a great school it was.  Ms. Beglin said the school is just like ours.  Kids at TZE do Reader's and Writer's Workshop, have field day, work on PBLs, and have the same specials that we do: Art, Music, P.E.  We learned that kids at TZE have Gym City too.  (We even got to see it later on during the tour.)  Ms. Beglin showed us an aerial map of the school.  It is shaped very differently from WOS.  Here, the hallways are long and straight.  There, the building is made of pods, which are sort of like circles.  Dr. Lee showed us a video with lots of photos of second and third graders with the message that "We take care of our own."  Then we heard the TZE song and saw more events and activites that take place at the school.  Finally, before we left the cafeteria, Dr. Lee asked us a question: "How do you spell my last name backwards?" One of the first graders was able to spell it: E-E-L.

A few kids from Mrs. Jacobs' class came to the cafeteria to escort us to their room.

The second graders had written letters for us trying to teach us about our new school.

Mrs. Jacobs told us to find a partner and choose a spot in the room.  They read their letters to us and answered any questions that we had.

Some people knew some of the kids in that class.  Some kids were on the same sports teams, some were neighbors, some were on our buses last year, some go to the same church, and some were even related!  Mrs. Nerkizian got to see 3 kids who were in her class last year!

The second grade tour guides took the kids around the room and showed us some of the things that we will learn about.

After a little while, we were ready to line up with our partner and start our tour of the building.  Mrs. Jacobs asked the second graders to point out different things in the hallways as we walked.  We saw: Gym City in the gym, the different colored hallways, the art room, the music room, the nurse, the library, and the lunchroom and cafeteria.

We went back to Mrs. Jacobs' room.  We had a chance to ask more questions.  A few children were still nervous about going to a new building next year.  Most children felt much better and more comfortable after the trip and the tour.

Before long, we were back!
