American Young Voices Concert
The Fourth and Fifth Grade Chorus from Cottage Lane Elementary School joins thousands of students as part of the American Young Voices Concert in the Prudential Center in Newark each year. The Young Voices Concerts started in the United Kingdom twenty years ago, and this concert marked the United States debut. The concert featured more than one hundred choirs from the tri-state area who united to sing a medley of songs together. Each school choir rehearsed the concert repertoire independently with their music teachers. Mrs. Danelle Greene, Cottage Lane Elementary music teacher and chorus director, began preparing the Chorus in September. All of the choirs rehearsed together on the afternoon of the concert, under the leadership of Francisco Nunez. Songs over the years have included “Can You Hear,” “Believe,” “When I Grow Up,” “Pop Medley,” “Livin’ on a Prayer,” “Give Us Hope,” and “All You Need is Love.” In addition to the American Young Voices, the concert features a band and several acts that includes breakdancing and sing-alongs of several current songs, with the entire audience joining in. The Cottage Lane fourth and fifth graders have an amazing time, from moving and dancing with the music to taking pictures and selfies with the performers.
