A growing number of states and cities have come to acknowledge the importance of celebrating Indigenous Peoples Day. Arizona, Oregon, Texas, Louisiana, Washington, D.C., and several other states are dedicating a second Monday in October to Indigenous Peoples’ Day. It is an opportunity to reflect on history in the United States, the role and impact Native people had on communities, and a day to gain some understanding of the diversity of Indigenous people.

I learned that Indigenous can be used if you don’t know where they are from.
I learned that Native Americans don’t live in just teepees.
