How To Register For a Sport
Intramural Sports
Students in grades 6-12 may participate in intramural sports offered through the school district. Intramural athletes do not require a sports physical; however, they must submit a signed parent permission form in order to participate.
Interscholastic Sports
In order to try out for an interscholastic sports team (modified, freshman, JV or varsity), a valid physical must be submitted and the student-athlete be must registered via Sportz Ventures at least one (1) week prior to the start of tryouts for that season. The online registration will be reviewed by the School Nurse and then signed by the School Physician. The names of all students declared medically qualified will be submitted to the coaches as approved.
The registration process is as follows:
1. Get a valid sports physical
For those who choose to have the sports physical done by their private physician, it’s recommended that the physical is timed to cover the entire school year. If the physical expires during the school year (or mid-season), the student-athlete will not be able to compete until a new physical is on file.
2. Register on Sportz Ventures
All athletes, including those in Grades 7 and 8, should click “Tappan Zee High School” to enter the district’s Sportz Ventures portal. Follow instructions on completing registration.
3. View Required Concussion and Concussion Prevention Videos
Each athlete and one of his/her parents must view the videos and upload certificates of completion to RegisterMyAthlete in order to complete registration. Athletes and parents must view the video once, at the start of the athlete’s SOCSD athletic career. To view the free video, go to the NFHS Learning Center website. You will need an email address to create an account.
