At its June 13 meeting, the South Orangetown Central School District Board of Education appointed William Pilla as Director of Physical Education, Health and Athletics. Mr. Pilla will oversee districtwide physical education and health curriculum and instruction and extracurricular athletics, effective July 1, 2019. He will report to Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction Dr. Brian Culot.
Mr. Pilla joins SOCSD after nearly 20 years with the East Ramapo Central School District, where he served as the Dean of Health & Human Development Academy and Athletic Director at Spring Valley High School, and as the district’s Coordinator of Physical Education, Health & Athletics. Since 2008, he has also had an active role in Section I Athletics, where he has served on the Transfer and Eligibility, Championship and Protest committees and as the Class A Football Chairperson. Previously, he taught at the elementary and junior high school levels in Yonkers Public Schools. He holds a Masters Degree in Special Education from CUNY City College, a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education from Manhattan College, a Certificate of Advanced Study in Educational Administration from SUNY New Paltz and New York State certification for both School District Administration and School Administration and Supervision.
