3D Printing

Welcome to the 6th Grade investigations class on 3D Printing! This is the first time we have ever had this class and we are all very excited to have you participate! You will have a great opportunity to learn about design, invention and 3D modeling while you are in this class. There might be times when you get frustrated, but keep on trying because your end project will be great!

Once in a while, a disruptive innovation, or something that challenges the “normal” way things are done comes along. Computers disrupted typewriters, internet news/blogs have disrupted newspapers and now 3D printers are disrupting fabrications (the way things are made). When people need something new, they usually have to go to a store and purchase the item they need. If the item doesn’t exist, they can either search in another store that might have it or wait. 3D printers have changed this process and now allow people to design items and print them our right on their desk. This technology has helped companies make new products faster, people create their own prosthetic limbs (people and pets), think up new inventions for everyday life and much, much more.

We will discuss the process people go through when designing something new, how to design in 3D and finally you will have the chance to design your very own object!

Below you will find the resources you will need for this unit. Enjoy!
