Emily’s Idea – A Little Creation Can Make a BIG Difference!

Our great friend Ms. Eyer (Library Media Specialist at TZHS) has found this AMAZING book: Emily’s Idea written by Christine Evans. This book truly reminds us: We Are All in This Together!

Please look at the slideshow of how to create as many dolls as we can, just like Emily.

Like sidewalk chalk and rainbow art, Emily’s Idea can help spread a message of love, hope and togetherness.

So after listening to Ms Eyer read this book, or you can read the story independently, you can be a part of our Amazing Community at South Orangetown!!  Make YOUR OWN paper doll chain, just like Emily and all of the people around her started to do.

As a school, let’s create as many dolls as we can, just like Emily… here’s what you do:

  1. Use this paper doll template and create your very own chain of paper dolls !   Get creative and have fun!!
  2. Cut out the doll chain – you might need a mom, dad, or someone older than you to help with that!
  3. Record yourself receiving this doll chain (that you made) and then imagine giving it to someone else (Watch Pass on Some Sunshine & Rainbows at William O Schaefer)
    • Psssttt…if you know an essential worker and can safely include them in your video, that would be awesome!
  4. Email your video to Ms. Eyer at peyer@socsd.org  or you can upload your video to this form
  • Once you are done, you can put them in your window, have a parent give them to someone special, or have a parent leave them for a stranger to put a smile on their face!
    • Ms. Zatarga would love to see your doll chains and hear about the story behind them, please send me a photo and/or share the STORY behind your dolls with me at czatarga@socsd.org
  • Ms. Eyer is going to create a movie of ALL the SOCSD students, teachers, staff members coming together – so make a doll chain, record a video, and then look for your friends!!

Make these beautiful doll chains and send them to Ms. Eyer before Friday, June 5, 2020!

Look at the video below of Ms Eyer to see how to receive a doll chain and pass it on to someone else.

Deadline: Friday, June 5, 2020.
