A little girl and her canine assistant set out to make the most magnificent thing. But after much hard work, the end result is not what the girl had in mind. Frustrated, she quits. Her assistant suggests a long walk, and as they walk, it slowly becomes clear what the girl needs to do to succeed. This short video was an inspiring start to our day!

IMG_3251Challenge: Build a grappling claw.

The second grade students had so much with the first Strawbees challenge that I decided to add a second challenge! Students will be teamed and given a bag containing: 9 straw, 2 five pronged strawbees, 1 three pronged strawbees, 10 two pronged strawbees, 2 single pronged strawbees and 1 rubber band. This task requires teamwork, measuring and following a blueprint! Teams..good luck, as we struggle to beat the clock!

A ruler can be used to draw straight lines and to take measurements of lines. Teams need to work together to measure and cut their straws into 3 different lengths. Watch the video below to learn and review how to use a ruler!

Final challenge, to build a strawbees umbrella!
