This month our Character Education theme is Communities Inspire Each Other. Students will be learning about New Year’s Day and Martin Luther King Junior Day. We will be focusing on the different ways that Martin Luther King Junior inspired others.
The book of the month is, Harlem Grown: How One Big Idea Transformed a Neighborhood. It is a true story about how one man, Tony Hillery, was inspired to make a big difference in one neighborhood. When he noticed that students did not have access to healthy food options, Tony invited students to work along side of him to turn a vacant lot into a fully functional farm. Today, Tony’s organization has more than ten farms, greenhouses, and school gardens that help feed people in NYC.
WOS and CLE will be celebrating College, Career, and Civic Readiness Week 01/09/23 – 01/13/23. Students will be creating their own Career Books where they will identify things they are good at, things they enjoy doing, and careers they might be interested in pursuing.
