Article 4-7 Constitution

Blog: Since we have started learning about the US Government and the Constitution 2/3 majority has often been used (override the veto, approve the Constitution, and make an amendment). As we discussed it is difficult (not easy) to get to a 2/3 majority. In your opinion why would the Founding Fathers like Washington, Jefferson, and Franklin keep using the 2/3 majority?

Part 2: Since we agree that 2/3 is a majority. Why not 3/5 or 3/4 majority? Think about out of 100. Post a response.

  1. The founding fathers Washington Franklin and Jefferson keep on using 2/3 majority because they want to make sure a lot of people agree and they want to make it hard.

  2. The founding fathers Franklin, Washington and Jefferson kept using 2/3 majority because it would be easier to vote for something so it would be 2/3 majority and 1/3 left instead of 1/2 majority and 1/2 majority and not having any majority and not making any decisions because no one can agree

  3. I think Washington, Jefferson and Franklin keep using the 2/3 majority because 2/3 majority is hard to do so they can still make the laws and rules and the government can’t over power them that often.

  4. They would keep using 2/3 because there is not a big chance of us reaching the 2/3. They would make it hard because they either don’t want it to happen or they think something bad might happen.

  5. I think the founding fathers kept two thirds because two thirds is greater than half. Three will never have a tie. This is why I think the founding fathers kept two thirds. I think they should have done 3/5 because the percentage is all most the same. Five also goes into 100 evenly.

  6. I think that the founding fathers kept using 2/3 majority because it’s fair, other than having 1/2 majority because that means the other one half of congress wants to override the veto but the other half thinks that it should not be a law. This way MOST ongress agrees not just half of congress and its fair that way.

  7. I think the Founding Fathers keep using the 2/3 majority because 2/3 is close to 1 whole, so it would be most of the people. This is fair because most of the people would agree, and a small amount would disagree

  8. I think Washington , Jefferson and Franklin kept using the 2/3 majority because they knew what they were doing and it was easy for them but not for us.

  9. I think that the Founding Fathers keep using the 2/3 of majority is because both 2 and 3 are prime (the factors are only 1 and itself) which also mens there not even. So since the numbers are not even if they every vote the votes will be uneven.

  10. i think the founding fathers kept using the 2/3 majority because they hand to get most people to agree with them and like we said it’s not easy to get 2/3 majority to be on your side

  11. They would keep using the same system because it works. When you have more confidence they have with there work.

  12. I think the Founding Fathers kept using the 2/3 majority rule because it is more likely a law or amendment will get passed to the President by Congress if more people agree with it. Also, our Constitution is so important that a lot or the majority of people should agree before making a change to it. Our Founding Fathers wanted to protect the U.S.A citizens forever.

  13. I think they kept the 2/3 majority because 2/3 it is not a half and it is equal to 66/100 so it is not easy to override a veto. Which means the power is divided equally.

  14. The founding fathers wanted to make sure that laws or amendments were passed not just because more than half the people like it. Two thirds is a vast majority not just a majority, meaning it was overwhelmingly agreed upon not just more than half the people.

  15. i think they use 2/3 majority because its not exactly everyone that is allowed vote to over ride a veto because if it was it would be next to impossible to over ride a veto even though it is very diffucult with 2/3 majority

  16. I think the founding fathers wanted to keep using 2/3 because I think they wanted to keep it difficult and not easy for the people.

  17. I think they did this so that 1) The presedent doesn’t look bad and 2) so too many bills would be made into laws

  18. I think Washington, Jefferson, and Franklin keep using 2/3 majority so that there would be no “tie.” In other words so that they would eventually make up their minds.

  19. I think they should keep on using the 2/3 majority, because, even though it’s difficult for our country, it has been part of U.S constitution for many years, and also, majority wins, and we can’t just say that because a important person in the Government says that they disagree on something, doesn’t mean that the rest of the Government who agree join their side.

  20. The founding fathers liked them because of the 2/3 majority and i think they should keep using the 2/3 majority because it is fair.

  21. I think that they used 2/3 majority because they did not want the rich people to have power over the poor people.

  22. I think the Founding Fathers would keep using the 2/3 majority because we wouldn’t have to keep remembering different numbers. It would be easier for the United States of America Government. It is a good amount of a majority for our Federal Government. The people could probably in my opinion be fine with the 2/3 majority. That’s why I think that the founding fathers of George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, and Thomas Jefferson kept using the 2/3 majority for the United States of America Federal Government.

  23. I think that they still used it because it was the best way to
make shoue that it was hard to veto the veto so that it was
    really whour it.

  24. becaues is there were 4 it could be 2 on 2 but three is a odd number so there could be 2 agnist 1 or they can all agree

  25. I think the founding fathers like Washington, Jefferson, Franklin keep using the 2/3 majority because if it was a odd number for example 2/6 it wouldn’t work because there is always a chance it could be 3/6 majority and 2/3 is the least common denominator.

  26. I think they keep using the veto because if some people don’t like the bill they use the veto to pick the bill that they want or a bill that they don’t want its not up to them its up to the judges (supreme courts).
