Tappan Zee High School


Students are responsible for honoring deadlines established by each scholarship. If supplemental materials are required to complete a scholarship application (i.e. transcripts, letters of recommendation), this form must be submitted at least five (5) school days before the scholarship deadline to allow for processing. If scholarship materials are to be mailed, an addressed envelope (including postage) must be provided by the student at least five (5) school days before the deadline.

New York State Excelsior Scholarships
This scholarship provides free tuition for all SUNY and CUNY schools, including Rockland Community College and other community colleges, for New York State residents. Full details, including rules and restrictions, are available on the New York State Higher Education Services Corporation web site. Please note that this application is not often available until after graduation.

Our Counseling Department carefully vets local scholarships for which information is shared (below) each spring. However, students and parents also look for scholarships on their own. Safety.com has a useful resource to help families assess whether “scholarship opportunities” they find online are legitimate.

Students can create a profile to search for merit aid, as well as college, private and foundation scholarships.

College Board Online
College Board Online helps students and parents make the transition from school to college. Includes College Board tests, programs, and online registration, a “Test Question of the Day,” a searchable database of colleges and financial aid information, including a financial aid calculator.

CollegeNet lets students search for institutions by geography, tuition, enrollment, and college major. Provides separate databases for four year colleges and community, technical, and junior colleges; lists of colleges by category; links to sources of financial aid information.

This site’s common scholarship application gives students access to more than 50 scholarships.

Sponsored by the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators, this site provides links to information about student financial aid. It also includes a “Scholarship Scam Alert” with information about scams and how to avoid them.

Peterson’s Education Center
Peterson’s Education Center includes information about educational programs at all levels and provides searchable databases of colleges and academic programs. All college/university sites provide basic information and many provide extensive descriptive material, online viewbooks and applications.
