The 2019 edition of Tappan Zee High School’s TONES received 13 awards in the Literary Magazines category at the annual Empire State School Press Association (ESSPA) Conference held at Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications.
Working on TONES has been a meaningful experience for senior Sophia Palitti, one of the publications art editors. Sophia plans to major in graphic design and, through TONES, “learned a lot about Photoshop, composition and layout.” Hannah Ahn, a senior who serves as both a literary and art editor, was interested to discover the artists and writers in their midst and sought to ensure representation of diverse perspectives. “It’s really rewarding to see your hard work turn into a magazine.”
